Welcome to Tylers Green First School - where children come first.
We are a small village Infant school, with children between the ages of four and seven years - arguably the most important years of a child's education. Whilst they are with us in our school family, the children are nurtured and supported to promote their holistic development. We have an active school council and Eco-council so our children's voices are heard in our decision making (they even interviewed me as the new Headteacher).
We are very proud of our school in the heart of our local community. Our school has been in use since 1876 - some of our classrooms are in the beautiful old building. We are lucky enough to have a large school field and our own extensive woodland area. We have a strong focus on outdoor learning and we are proud of our Eco-School status. All of our class names are trees to reflect this and encourage the children in their love of the natural environment.
We place a strong focus on developing the basic skills that the children need to be successful. In the Early Years department, child initiated learning is at the heart of the planned activities. Early reading, writing and maths skills are taught in small groups to make sure that the children get just the right level of support. Moving into Key Stage 1, the children develop their academic skills through whole class teaching and group work, based around termly topics. As an Infant school, we provide as much hands-on learning as possible to engage and enthuse the children.
Our community is strongly supported by our parents who are very much part of the day to day life of the school. We hope to respect the traditions and values of all parents and support them in their aspirations for their children's future. We have a super Parent Teacher Association who run a series of events throughout the year to support the school.
If you are considering applying to Tylers Green First School for your child, you are welcome to come and visit us. Please contact the school office to arrange a time to come and see our school in action.
