Information about our Governors

      Mark Patterson - Chair

Welcome from the Chair

Tylers Green First School is a welcoming, vibrant, and active community in the heart of the village.  Being a governor is a great way of supporting our school, its leadership, development and our children as well as giving back to the community. Our Governing Body is made up of a combination of appointed and elected governors that include parents, grandparents and members of the local community. No formal qualifications are needed to become a governor, but a commitment to the school and the ability to work in a team are essential. The number and type of governors varies between schools, but our governing body comprises fourteen governors. The responsibility for the actions and decisions of the governing body lies with the whole governing body, not with individual members. It is also a great opportunity to meet and interact with members of the village.

The Governing Body’s role is to set the strategic direction for the school, supporting the Head Teacher, namely:

  • To set the aims and objectives for the school and setting a clear vision for the future

  • Ensure achievement of high standards in education for our children in line with curriculum standards

  • Ensure that finances are appropriately used, and premises are appropriately maintained

  • Ensuring that resources are appropriately utilised in the best way for the school to benefit the children

  • Supporting the school’s development plan

The Full Governing Body meets termly, and there are also termly committee meetings.  Please click on the links below to find out more.
